Qianhai Museum to open Oct 30 with 3,000 artefacts across eight exhibitions

The Qianhai Museum, located in the Qianwan area of the Qianhai cooperation zone, will begin trial operations on Oct 30 and open to the public from 2pm that day, the Shenzhen government announced. The venue will launch eight major exhibitions showcasing more than 3,000 artefacts, with 5,000 reservation slots available on the first day and 8,000 slots per day thereafter.

Developed jointly by the Shenzhen municipal government and the National Museum of China, the museum has a total floor area of 126,000 square metres, including more than 40,000 square metres of exhibition space. The building integrates natural ecology, urban landscape and cultural heritage spaces, with a 95-metre-span steel tube concrete arch as its core structure, creating column-free viewing areas on both the north and south sides.

The more than 3,000 artefacts on display include ritual bronze vessels, fine jade pieces, porcelain from various dynasties and sculptural treasures, with 10 items coming from the National Museum of China.

The museum also features a digital exhibition bringing together content on the Beijing Central Axis, the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, oracle bone inscriptions from Yinxu, Jingdezhen ceramics and the Sanxingdui site. According to the organisers, the museum will leverage Qianhai's role as an outward-looking zone to build a national-level smart comprehensive museum in the future.

Visitors are required to book timed entry tickets in advance through the Qianhai Museum's official WeChat account. Some exhibitions can be reserved for free, while ticketed special exhibitions cost 80 yuan for a standard single-entry ticket, with concessions or free admission available for eligible visitors.
