A new pair of giant pandas from China, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, made their formal public debut on Friday (7 November) at Zoo Atlanta in the United States, following a month-long acclimatisation period.
Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng spoke at the opening ceremony of the panda exhibit. He described the arrival of the giant pandas as the latest result of implementing the consensus reached by the two countries' leaders and deepening people-to-people exchanges. Xie said it was also a renewal of China's partnership with Zoo Atlanta, a sincere response to the expectations of the American public, and a vivid example of practical cooperation between Chinese and US localities.
The ambassador urged both sides to take the arrival of the new pandas as an opportunity to continuously implement the important consensus from the summit meetings, keep lengthening the list of cooperation while shortening the list of problems, and actively promote friendship between the peoples of the two countries. He called for a constructive, strategic and stable relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity to take root and move forward steadily.
Xie also noted that China, as the home of the giant panda, always keeps its doors open and welcomes more American friends to visit and see for themselves.
