China's National Day holiday sees 0.6% rise in daily cross-regional trips

China's Ministry of Transport reported that the seven-day National Day holiday, which ended on 7 October, saw a total of 21.42 billion cross-regional person trips, with a daily average of 306 million trips. This represented a 0.6 per cent increase compared with the daily average during last year's combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day eight-day holiday, according to a ministry statement published on its official WeChat account.

The ministry said that daily railway passenger volume averaged 21.7 million trips during the holiday, up 12.7 per cent year on year. Cumulative road passenger volume averaged more than 280 million trips per day, a decline of 0.3 per cent from the previous year. Daily waterway passenger volume averaged 1.56 million trips, an increase of 7.1 per cent. Daily civil aviation passenger volume averaged 2.42 million trips, roughly flat compared with the same period last year.

The first day of the National Day holiday recorded the highest single-day cross-regional flow of the seven-day period, with 329 million trips. However, this figure was down 1.9 per cent compared with the same day last year, the ministry added.
