China ready to contribute practical trade outcomes at G20 Miami summit, ministry says

China’s Ministry of Commerce has said Beijing is willing to work with the G20 presidency and other members to contribute positive and practical economic and trade outcomes at the forthcoming G20 summit in Miami, after a meeting of the group’s trade ministers in the United States.

The trade ministers’ meeting produced a joint statement on opposing the weaponisation of food, but failed to reach agreements on issues including addressing overcapacity, eliminating forced labour and adjusting most-favoured-nation treatment principles, the ministry noted.

In Beijing, the ministry said China had maintained an open and cooperative attitude during the meeting, participated constructively in discussions on all agenda items and communicated closely with other members to facilitate dialogue and consensus-building.

It added that China had consistently upheld its principles, resolutely defended its own interests and those of developing countries, and worked to promote unity and cooperation within the G20.

A spokesperson for the ministry said: “Looking ahead to the upcoming G20 Miami summit, China is willing to work with the presidency and all members to uphold consensus-building, unity and cooperation, and jointly contribute positive and practical economic and trade outcomes for the summit.”
