China raises petrol and diesel prices from midnight
China will raise petrol and diesel prices by 345 yuan and 335 yuan per tonne from midnight, the National Development and Reform Commission announced on 29 October 2026, citing rising global crude oil prices due to Middle East tensions.
China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced on Thursday 29 October that domestic petrol and diesel (standard grade) prices will be raised by 345 yuan and 335 yuan per tonne respectively from midnight.
The NDRC said that since the previous adjustment on 15 October, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East had driven a sharp increase in international crude oil prices. Under the current pricing mechanism, petrol and diesel should have been raised by 440 yuan and 420 yuan per tonne, the commission said. However, to balance the burden on downstream users while ensuring stable and secure supplies of refined oil products, the actual increases have been set at 345 yuan for petrol and 335 yuan for diesel.
The NDRC instructed state-owned oil majors including PetroChina, Sinopec and CNOOC, as well as other crude oil processors, to organise production, transportation and logistics of refined oil products to guarantee stable market supply and strictly comply with national pricing policies.
Local authorities across the country have been ordered to step up market supervision and enforcement, and to strictly investigate and punish any violations of the national pricing policy in order to maintain normal market order.
