China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management have convened joint consultations with the China Meteorological Administration, the Ministry of Water Resources and key provinces including Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to coordinate flood control and typhoon prevention efforts, as Severe Tropical Storm Jongdari entered the southern part of the East China Sea.
The storm, located southwest of Kagoshima, is forecast to move across the East China Sea and gradually weaken, according to the National Meteorological Center.
The meeting stressed the need to manage both maritime and land-based risks. Authorities were ordered to recheck vessel, port and personnel shelter conditions on a case-by-case basis, and to re-inspect potential hazards such as glass curtain walls, roadside trees and perimeter walls.
Officials were also instructed to decisively evacuate people from high-risk areas, focusing on gully mouths, narrow river channels and critical sites including nursing homes, schools and hospitals. Rescue, disaster relief and emergency response resources must be coordinated and fully deployed.
The headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management maintained a Level IV emergency response for Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangsu, with work teams continuing to assist frontline operations in Zhejiang and Shanghai.
