China, Canada pledge to deepen trade ties at Beijing meeting

The 29th session of the China-Canada Joint Committee on Trade and Economy was held in Beijing on Tuesday, chaired by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and Canadian International Trade Minister Mary Ng. The two sides held frank and in-depth discussions on bilateral economic and trade relations, cooperation in traditional and emerging fields, and mutual trade concerns.

Wang said China is willing to work with Canada to continuously shorten the problem list and lengthen the cooperation list. He added that the two sides should continue to implement the China-Canada economic and trade cooperation roadmap, consolidate cooperation in traditional sectors such as oil and gas, energy, agricultural and aquatic products, and consumer goods, and further expand cooperation in emerging areas such as new materials, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and smart agriculture. Wang said such efforts would provide strong support for the development of China-Canada economic and trade relations.

Ng said Canada is willing to continue to properly handle problems and advance cooperation under the framework of the joint committee. She encouraged companies from both countries to expand trade and investment cooperation, and specifically welcomed Chinese companies to actively participate in cooperation in Canada's modern agriculture, manufacturing, financial services, and energy sectors.
