CPC Fifth Plenum to Advance Comprehensive Party Discipline
The Chinese Communist Party's fifth plenum of the 20th Central Committee will discuss advancing comprehensive party discipline. State media says this strengthens party leadership and implements Xi Jinping's party-building ideology.
The fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) has opened in Beijing, with a major agenda item being the study of persistently advancing comprehensive party discipline on several major issues, according to state broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).
An opinion article on the party-run People's Daily Online stated that this move is of great significance for consolidating the party's ruling position and fulfilling its mission and tasks. The article emphasised that party leadership and party building are fundamental guarantees for the development of the cause.
The article noted that comprehensive party discipline requires full coverage of all aspects of party building, driving all party-building efforts to work in the same direction and combine their strengths. It said that more than five million grassroots party organisations are now “like the body commanding the arms, and the arms commanding the fingers”, and that the party's creativity, cohesion and combat effectiveness have been significantly enhanced.
On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the CPC's founding, the central leadership has clarified Xi Jinping's party-building ideology, the article added. It said that insisting on comprehensive party discipline is an important aspect of the “fourteen insistences” of Xi Jinping's party-building ideology and serves as the strategic guideline for party building in the new era.
The article further stated that on the new Long March, by consciously using Xi Jinping's party-building ideology to plan and advance party construction, and by having party members and cadres voluntarily observe party political discipline and rules and march in unison, they will certainly be able to create achievements worthy of the party, the people and the era.
