Taiwan's export-driven, tech-centred economy grew faster than expected in the third quarter of 2026, indicating that demand for AI-related chips and technology remains resilient, according to official data released on Friday.
Taiwan's gross domestic product expanded 14.36 per cent year-on-year in the July to September quarter, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said. That exceeded the 12 per cent forecast by economists in a Reuters poll, and surpassed the 12.93 per cent growth rate of the second quarter.
The island's economy has shown robust growth thanks to its position as a major producer of the advanced semiconductors powering the AI revolution. TSMC leads Taiwan's technology supply chain, serving global giants such as Nvidia and Apple.
