Standard Chartered held its board meeting in Hong Kong this week, underscoring the city's strategic importance. Chair Maria Rita affirmed confidence in Hong Kong's role as a global financial hub, citing its advantages in offshore yuan business and wealth management amid China's continued opening.
Standard Chartered Group held its board meeting in Hong Kong this week, a move the bank said further cements the city's strategic importance to the group and demonstrates its confidence in Hong Kong's long-term development prospects.
Chair Maria Rita reaffirmed the bank's commitment to and confidence in Hong Kong, noting that the momentum has strengthened as the city sets out its five-year vision. She described Hong Kong as the world's largest offshore renminbi business hub, an international wealth management centre and a 'super-connector', saying it will continue to leverage these strengths to seize opportunities arising from the mainland's continued opening. She added that Hong Kong will further consolidate its status as an international financial centre by promoting cross-border trade, investment and capital flows.
Rita led board members, along with group Chief Executive Officer Bill Winters and the management team, in meetings with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders. The discussions covered the evolving market environment and growth opportunities in the mainland, Hong Kong and Asia, as well as the group's long-term strategy.
Over the past month, Rita has also visited several markets in Asia to engage extensively with stakeholders.
