Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang has announced plans to invest an additional US$2 billion (HK$15.7 billion) in Europe, according to a Bloomberg report published during his visit to the region.
The new commitment comes on top of the US$8 billion the company has already invested in Europe over the past year, Huang said.
During his trip, Huang met with French President Emmanuel Macron. Nvidia said the two discussed the company's investments in France, as well as topics including open-source software and artificial-intelligence security.
Huang also announced new funding rounds for French startups Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic, though the company did not disclose the size of these investments.
Speaking at an event in Paris, Huang rejected calls to slow down AI development, saying that "Europe needs to join the race." He asserted that artificial intelligence will promote economic development and can be carried out safely.
The announcement underscores Nvidia's growing focus on Europe as a market and hub for AI innovation, with France emerging as a key destination for the company's expansion.
