HKEX launches AI and semiconductor indices, signs ETF licensing deal
Hong Kong Exchange launches AI and semiconductor indices tracking listed firms, signs licensing agreement with Southern Fund Management for an ETF in mainland China.
Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) has launched the HKEX Artificial Intelligence Index and signed a licensing agreement with Southern Fund Management to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) tracking the index in mainland China. Details of the ETF will be announced in due course, HKEX said on 23 October.
HKEX Chief Information Officer Leung Sung Kwong said he looks forward to collaborating with other market participants to develop more investment products linked to HKEX indices. Southern Fund Management General Manager Yang Xiaosong said the firm will transform opportunities in Hong Kong's AI industry chain into index-based tools that mainland investors can easily access, continuously enriching the cross-border connectivity product line.
The HKEX AI Index tracks the performance of 40 Hong Kong-listed companies highly relevant to the AI industry chain, covering five major areas: chip design, data centres, AI infrastructure, AI models, and software and physical applications.
HKEX has also launched the HKEX Semiconductor Index, which tracks the performance of the 30 largest Hong Kong-listed semiconductor-related companies, covering industries including semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, electronic components, computing hardware and storage devices.
