China Construction Bank (CCB) posted a net profit of 1046.6 billion yuan (about US$145 billion) for the third quarter, up nearly 10 per cent from a year earlier, according to results released on 30 October. The gain was led by a 13 per cent rise in net interest income to more than 1594 billion yuan. Net fee and commission income, however, dropped by about 18 per cent to just over 201 billion yuan.
For the first three quarters of 2026, CCB's total profit reached 2742.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of nearly 7 per cent. The bank's credit impairment losses swelled by nearly 22 per cent to more than 1483 billion yuan. Net interest income for the nine-month period climbed 10 per cent to 4704 billion yuan, while the net interest margin held steady at 1.36 per cent.
Non-interest net income rose by more than 15 per cent to over 1531 billion yuan, driven primarily by market factors that boosted returns from bond and equity investments. As of the end of September, CCB's non-performing loans (NPLs) stood at 379 billion yuan, an increase of more than 150 billion yuan from the end of 2025. The NPL ratio edged down 0.02 percentage points to 1.29 per cent.
