Bank of China Q3 profit up 6.36% year on year

Bank of China has posted a 6.36 per cent year-on-year increase in attributable profit for the third quarter, reaching 63.888 billion yuan (US$8.8 billion). The lender’s net interest income for the quarter rose 10.7 per cent to 122.873 billion yuan, while net fee and commission income slipped nearly 2 per cent to 18.43 billion yuan.

In the first nine months of the year, the bank’s attributable profit grew 5.53 per cent year on year to 187.482 billion yuan. Net interest income over the period climbed 10.38 per cent to 359.606 billion yuan, and net fee and commission income edged up nearly 0.1 per cent to 65.639 billion yuan.

The group’s impairment losses on assets for the first three quarters amounted to 95.84 billion yuan, a surge of more than 19 per cent compared with the same period last year. Total non-performing loans stood at 304.11 billion yuan, with a non-performing loan ratio of 1.22 per cent, down 0.01 percentage point from the end of 2025. The coverage ratio of NPL provisions was 198.30 per cent, a decline of 2.07 percentage points from year-end 2025.

The results underscore the bank’s continued reliance on interest income amid a challenging environment for fee-based revenue. The sharp rise in impairment losses also signals mounting credit costs.
