ASMPT decides to retain SMT solutions business after review

ASMPT has announced that, following a comprehensive review and assessment, it has decided to retain its SMT solutions business, concluding that doing so is in the best overall interests of the company and its shareholders. The company said it will support the business's development and growth in line with its operational and strategic objectives, and will implement a growth strategy.

The company stated that since the announcement of its strategic options review earlier this year, the performance and prospects of the SMT business have strengthened. ASMPT believes that retaining the business will enable it to capture growth opportunities.

In a statement, the company said the board had considered favourable long-term industry trends related to the business, in particular the expansion of investment in artificial-intelligence infrastructure and increasingly stringent electronic manufacturing requirements. The assessment also took into account the SMT solutions business's leading market position, technical capabilities, extensive customer relationships, innovative product portfolio and future growth prospects.

ASMPT's decision ends a period of uncertainty over the future of the SMT solutions unit, which had been under strategic review since early this year. The company's announcement did not disclose any financial details of the review or specific growth targets.
