Hong Kong's iAM Smart app launches AI assistant for government queries

Hong Kong's Digital Office has launched an "AI Assistant" feature in the iAM Smart mobile app to help residents access government services more easily. The tool uses artificial intelligence to search official sources for answers to users' questions and presents the information in a clear, organised format.

When residents ask about how to apply for an online government service, the AI Assistant will list the eligibility requirements, step-by-step procedures and provide direct links to the relevant online forms. It also supports the existing "Form Filler" function to help users complete applications seamlessly.

The latest version of the iAM Smart app (version 5.0) with the AI Assistant will be pushed to users gradually from 14 October through late October via official app stores. Users need to install the updated app and tap on the avatar of the app's mascot "A-Chi" on the home screen to activate the assistant.

The Digital Office said it will continue to improve the AI Assistant and plans to launch an enhanced version offering personalised services by the end of 2026, aiming to further improve the user experience.
