Anthropic reports Q3 revenue surge of over 11-fold, net loss widens

Anthropic has submitted an amended prospectus filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), updating certain financial figures. The documents show that in the first nine months of this year, ending 30 September, the company's revenue reached US$33.24 billion, a year-on-year increase of about 12 times.

During the same period, the company recorded a net loss of US$104 billion, significantly larger than the US$25.1 billion loss reported in the same period last year. The quarterly figures for the three months to September showed revenue of US$16.96 billion, a year-on-year increase of more than 11 times. Revenue from its Claude business stood at US$17 billion for the quarter.

The quarterly net loss was US$23.3 billion, widening by more than 92 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier. The filing also reveals that Anthropic has entered into purchase commitments and lease agreements, with total committed expenditure of about US$895.4 billion, the majority of which is related to computing power and infrastructure.

The amended filing provides a more detailed picture of the company's financial trajectory as it prepares for its public listing. The sharp increase in revenue, driven largely by its Claude AI product, contrasts with widening losses, underscoring the heavy investment required in the competitive artificial-intelligence sector.

Anthropic, known for its focus on AI safety and research, has been scaling up operations rapidly. The substantial commitments to computing and infrastructure highlight the capital-intensive nature of developing and deploying advanced AI models.
