Amazon in talks to buy AI startup Decart for US$7 billion, WSJ reports
Amazon is in discussions to acquire AI startup Decart for around US$7 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. Decart, backed by Nvidia, develops AI models for live video editing and simulated environments. A deal could be reached soon if talks succeed.
Amazon is in talks to acquire artificial-intelligence startup Decart in a deal valued at around US$7 billion (HK$54.6 billion), the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter. A deal could happen soon if the talks do not fall apart or another suitor emerges, the report said.
Decart, which is backed by Nvidia, has developed the Lucy model, which can edit live video in real time, according to the company's website. It has also built Oasis, a model that generates simulated environments to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.
According to PitchBook data cited by the Journal, Decart was valued at nearly US$4 billion in May. The startup raised US$300 million in May in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.
Last month, Anthropic decided not to pursue an acquisition of Decart after conducting due diligence, Bloomberg News reported. It had explored a potential US$6 billion deal in August, the report added.
Amazon declined to comment outside regular business hours, while Decart did not respond to requests for comment.
