Release Liaoyang Four NOW!

Now that a trial date has been set for Yao Fuxin and Xiao Yunliang on January 15, your support is urgently needed.

Liaoyang labour activists Yao and Xiao were arrested last March for their leading roles in the four-year campaign against corruption and bankruptcy at the Liaoyang Ferroalloy Factory. After their 9-month detention with no formal charges, they have just been charged with subversion which carries a maximum sentence of death penalty -- they were originally arrested for organising illegal protests!

We are urging you to stand in solidarity with Yao and Xiao and their families, particularly that local authorities have their home phones cut off from incoming calls to prevent them from publicising the workers' cause and seeking support.

Join our online appeal and send letters to the Chinese government demanding the immediate release of Yao and Xiao, and their fellow workers' representatives Wang Zhaoming and Pang Qingxiang.

Go to the link below, and make your statement to the Chinese government:

CLB managed to talk with Yao's daughter before her phone was cut off. Listen to what she has got to say about his father. A farmer in the neighbourhood of Ferroalloy Factory also talks about the workers' protests and the charges of subversion against the workers' representatives.

“We will do whatever it takes…to fight for this case!”

Xiao Yunliang's wife also spoke out. She told CLB that she had been put under police surveillance since January 4, and was warned not to join any demonstrations. She responded squarely, "If there is another demonstration, I will go."

We will do whatever it takes…to fight for this case!

The Liaoyang protests are not isolated spells of discontent. The detention of the Liaoyang Four has not deterred other workers from fighting for the same rights that took the Ferroalloy workers to the streets in freezing weather last March. On January 2, about 1000 retired textile workers in Hubei Province took action to protest pension cuts and corruption at the Tieshu Textile Corporation.
